Breaking Ground: Porei Pomat Memorial Church Construction Begins at Last!

02 Mar 2025

MUSUHAGEN, East Sepik—The long-awaited construction of the Porei Pomat Memorial Church in Musuhagen, Kubalia, has been revived after years of delay, bringing relief to the local congregation and district leaders.

The project was initially initiated by the Honorable Job Pomat, who assisted with some funds a few years ago to help construct the church. However, due to various challenges, construction did not commence as planned, prompting the church to seek further assistance from the Sepik Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to head the initiative.

Pastor James Amos, District Director of Kubalia District Headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, expressed his gratitude for the mission’s support, highlighting Musuhagen’s historical significance as one of the pioneer churches in Sepik Mission, where the first Adventist missionaries set foot before expanding their outreach to other parts of the region.

“I am very pleased to see the mission representatives here in Musuhagen for this purpose. It is a relief to me and the district,” Pastor Amos said.

Visiting the church yesterday for Sabbath was the Mission Secretary, Pastor Jeffrey Saigomi, along with some mission technical personnel who will lead the construction efforts. Spending the Sabbath with the church family at Musuhagen, Pastor Saigomi encouraged the congregation in faith and assured them that the project would commence soon.

This morning, the technical team from Sepik Mission arrived and laid out the foundation of the building, marking a significant step in the progress of the church's construction.

With this new partnership arrangement and mission backing, the Porei Pomat Memorial Church is set to become a reality, serving as a spiritual hub for the community and a testament to the region’s deep-rooted Adventist faith.
