Wewak Adventist Youths donate blood to support Boram General Hospital

WEWAK, March 15, 2025 – The Seventh-day Adventist Church youth in Wewak came together today to mark Global Youth Day with a blood drive at Boram General Hospital. 

Youth representatives from various local churches in the Wewak Island District participated in the event, which aimed to save lives through blood donation. The initiative was led by the West Coast Wewak Island District Adventist Youth under the global theme, “A Community Transformed.”

Five churches from the Wewak Island District took part, with members from Meni, Niugo, Tangara, Gander, Wom, Yawasoro, Passam, and Rainumbo gathering for the cause.

The event was spearheaded by the West Coast Wewak Island District, but was honored to have Pastor Richie Gako, Youth Director of Sepik Mission, join in the rally. Also present was District Director Pastor Francis Nima, who led alongside the youth and other participants A total of 142 donors were screened, with 49 successfully donating blood, while the other 93 were unable to donate due to low hemoglobin (HB), and 3 were given treatment for very low HB. The blood drive was facilitated by a six-member team from the Boram General Hospital blood bank, led by Aglea Kovingre. 

At the conclusion of the event, Wewak Island West Coast District Youth Coordinator Elder Raymond Manamb and Elder Nickson Berak of Meni SDA Church led a closing session, followed by a prayer from Minister Francis Nima.

In response to the successful turnout, the blood bank team at Boram Hospital requested another donation drive to be organized on June 14, in recognition of World Blood Donor Day. Plans are already in place for the district to facilitate another event to continue supporting the hospital’s blood bank.
