Angoram SDA Primary School Equips Students with Life Skills

ANGORAM, EAST SEPIK – Angoram SDA Primary School is taking a unique approach to education by integrating agriculture and home economics into its curriculum to equip students with practical life skills.

Established as an elementary school a decade ago, the institution was upgraded to a primary school in 2021. It now has a student population of 504 and is staffed by 14 teachers, including five for elementary and nine for primary education.

One of the school's standout programs is its agricultural project, where each class cultivates different food crops. Head teacher Mrs. Abiri Job said the initiative aims to prepare students for self-reliance.

“The whole idea is that we want to promote agriculture here to our students because not all of them will make it to colleges or universities or even land a job,” she said. “Some of them will come back to their villages, and this basic knowledge of agriculture will help them make their living or sustain themselves.”

In addition to agriculture, the school introduced a home economics program last year, covering cooking, sewing, carpentry, floriculture, and music. The program is designed to equip students with essential skills that can be applied in everyday life.

With these initiatives, Angoram SDA Primary School is not only delivering academic education but also preparing students for a future where they can be self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
