Fulton Adventist University College, Fiji – The Papua New Guinea Union Mission (PNGUM) is proud to announce the commissioning of four missionaries to the East Indonesia Union Conference as part of a groundbreaking initiative by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. This move comes as 55 Pioneer Missionaries were sent to Indonesia and Timor-Leste following the conclusion of the Catalyst Mission Refocus discipleship training at Fulton Adventist University College in Fiji.
The commissioning ceremony, held last week, marks a significant milestone in the strategic partnership between the South Pacific Division (SPD) and the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD). PNGUM’s participation underscores its commitment to cross-border mission work and its role in advancing the gospel in challenging yet promising territories.
The four missionaries from PNGUM will join their counterparts from across the South Pacific in serving the East Indonesia Union Conference. Their deployment reflects PNGUM’s dedication to supporting global evangelism and strengthening ties with neighboring regions.
Indonesia and Timor-Leste, known for their cultural diversity and unique challenges, are seen as vital mission fields with immense potential for growth. The missionaries will focus on sharing the message of Christ while fostering unity and hope in the communities they serve.

PNGUM Mission Refocus Director, Pastor Obed Yamasombi, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “This is a historic moment for PNGUM as we step forward in faith to support our brothers and sisters in East Indonesia. Our missionaries carry not only the gospel but also the prayers and support of the entire PNG Adventist community.”
Director of Coordination, Implementation, and Intercountry Liaison, Minister Nelson Yanding Yawising, further highlighted the significance of this partnership. He said, “This initiative marks a greater partnership between PNGUM and the East Indonesia Union Mission. By deploying our four ministers to work alongside their counterparts on the other side of our border, we are strengthening ties and advancing our shared mission.”
The Adventist Church has called for prayers for the 55 missionaries, including the four from PNGUM, as they embark on this transformative journey. Their work is expected to have a lasting impact on the spiritual and social fabric of the regions they serve.
